word that engraved upon lockets and charms worn by many Jews. All Hebrew
letters have a numeric value. Chai is made up of two Hebrew letters
chet (8) and yud (10) which together adds up to 18. Very often Jews make
symbolic gifts of 18-dollars, hundreds of dollars, thousands of dollars
